Prof. Dr. Piet Eichholtz

Professor of Real Estate and Finance

Piet Eichholtz (1962) is Professor of Real Estate and Finance and chair of the Finance Department at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He has provided extensive services to public society, mainly through board memberships of industry organizations in the property sector (EPRA, AEDEX, ROZ-IPD), but also as an advisor to various government agencies and the United Nations. Besides his academic career, Eichholtz has also built up a solid reputation as an entrepreneur. After having gained practical experience at pension fund ABP and at NIB Capital, Eichholtz started Global Property Research, an international consultancy firm specialized in property companies, which was taken over by Kempen & Co in 2001. In 2004, he was a co-founder of Finance Ideas, a financial consultancy company. In 2011, he was among the founders of GRESB, the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark, and co-founded EconomievoorJou in 2013. He is currently a member of the advisory board of the RO Group, of the investment committee of Loyalis, and of the housing scenario group of Rabo Bouwfonds. He is also a fellow of the U.S. Real Estate Research Institute and of the World Demographic Association, a member of the Research Council of the U.S. National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, and honorary member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Research Interests

Real estate markets, with a focus on international investment,portfolio management, property companies, and housing markets; green real estate, corporate governance.
